Yes, robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery is a safe and well-established technique used in gynecology. It allows your surgeon to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, control, and visualization. At Laurel OB/GYN, our experienced team uses this technology to improve surgical outcomes and support faster, more comfortable recoveries.
Robotic-assisted surgery offers several key benefits, including smaller incisions, less blood loss, reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker returns to normal activity. It also provides greater precision for delicate procedures, which can be especially helpful in treating conditions like endometriosis or fibroids.
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique that uses a small camera and specialized instruments inserted through tiny incisions in the abdomen or pelvis. At Laurel OB/GYN, this approach is often assisted by advanced robotic technology, allowing for greater precision and control. Performed under general anesthesia, most laparoscopic procedures involve three to four incisions—each just 0.5 to 1 centimeter in size—with dissolvable sutures placed beneath the skin. This technique typically results in less post-operative pain, minimal scarring, and a quicker recovery than traditional open gynecology surgery.
Many common and complex gynecologic conditions can be effectively treated using laparoscopic or robotic-assisted techniques. At Laurel OB/GYN, we use this approach for procedures such as:
Our team will determine if you are a candidate based on your specific condition, health history, and treatment goals.
Recovery from laparoscopic surgery is generally faster and more comfortable than traditional surgery. However, recovery times vary. Most patients at Laurel OB/GYN go home the same day, as long as pain is well-managed and they’re able to urinate after the procedure. You can expect to be up and walking within hours, with strength returning day by day. Full recovery varies depending on the type of procedure, but most people resume normal activities within 2 to 6 weeks.
A Hysteroscopy utlizes an instrument called a hysteroscope that is inserted through the vagina and cervix. It gives the doctor a view inside of the uterus. Because a hysteroscopy is performed through natural body openings (the vagina and cervix), it does not require any incisions, and so does not leave any visible scars.
Your care team at Laurel OB/GYN will provide specific pre-op instructions, which may include fasting, medication adjustments, and arranging a ride home. We’ll guide you through every step so you feel prepared and confident before surgery day.
